Back in 2017, Samsung released the first showing of DeX (short for “desktop experience”) that allowed high-end Samsung Galaxy phones to plug into a special dock and be used like a desktop PC. While details of Samsung’s One UI 7 are largely under wraps, an update on Samsung’s UK website has revealed that the DeX app for Windows is being discontinued. DeX allows Galaxy phone owners to project their device’s screen onto a PC window.

One UI 7 is, according to Samsung, likely to come sometime early next year. That timeframe has been delayed significantly from the original release timeline. Whenever that One UI 7 release happens, the DeX Windows app will no longer be supported, though DeX capabilities will remain. That includes connecting peripherals to a Galaxy phone.

Samsung is pulling the plug on its DeX for PC app, which allowed users of recent Galaxy phones to access their phones from their PCs. The company invites users to switch to Microsoft's similar Phone Link app.

On the Samsung DeX landing page, the company revealed that One UI 7 will not support the Samsung DeX app on Windows. This app made it possible to seamlessly transfer files and more between devices. However, there was a ton of feature overlap between DeX and Microsoft Phone Link, and Samsung now wants you to move to the latter.
