Two human cases of a rare parasitic infection linked to raccoon feces were found in Los Angeles County, prompting public health officials to launch an investigation. Two cases of Baylisascaris procyonis, also known as raccoon roundworm, were detected in the South Bay area, the Los Angeles Public Health Department said Tuesday.

A new wildfire was reported today at 2:04 a.m. in Los Angeles County. The wildfire has been burning on private land. There is currently no information about the containment efforts for the fire and its cause remains unknown.

Raccoon roundworm, known as Bylisascaris procyonis, is an intestinal parasitic infection that can affect the human spinal cord, brain and eyes, officials said.
