In 1984, a group of British and Irish music stars came together to record “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” The song, inspired by Ethiopia’s famine, was spearheaded by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure under the name Band Aid.

GRAMMY-WINNING artist Fuse ODG has criticised the BBC for releasing a documentary about Band Aid, saying it dehumanises African people. Band Aid – which was formed by Sir Bob Geldof- released its charity single ‘ Do They Know its Christmas?’ to raise money following the catastrophic famine in Ethiopia in 1984.

Bob Geldof has responded after British pop star Ed Sheeran said he had changed his stance on Band Aid charity single “Do They Know It’s Christmas?”. Last week, Sheeran shared a statement telling followers that he had not been asked to have his vocals featured on a new mix of the song,

"Over the course of 40 years, hundreds of thousands of people — probably millions — are alive because of a little pop song," Geldof said on CNN
