The Mahayuti alliance will form a new government in Maharashtra on December 5. Devendra Fadnavis is the frontrunner for the chief minister post. The BJP emerged as the largest party in recent assembly polls.

The formal announcement on CM will be done after the BJP legislative party meeting in Mumbai in a day or two after party MLAs appoint the leader of the state legislative party.

Amid the suspense over the Chief Ministerial face in Maharashtra, outgoing Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde has hinted at Fadnavis's name for the post.

Maharashtra: The Maharashtra Assembly election results were declared on November 23, but the ruling BJP-led Mahayuti alliance has yet to finalise its choice for Chief Minister.

A day after the Mahayuti leaders' meeting with Union home minister Amit Shah in New Delhi, caretaker CM Eknath Shinde left for his village Dare Tamb in Mahabaleshwar taluka in Satara district. Sources said the BJP is working on him to get him to accept the deputy CM's post.
