Democrat Connie Pillich ended the 92-year reign of Republicans as Hamilton County’s top prosecutor on Tuesday and became the first woman ever elected to the position.

With nearly all precincts reporting late Tuesday night, Connie Pillich claimed victory in the race for Hamilton County prosecutor. Shortly after 11 p.m., Pillich had more than 51% of the vote over Republican Melissa Powers,

CINCINNATI (WKRC) - Voters in Hamilton County have elected a new prosecutor, with former State Representative Connie Pillich narrowly defeating incumbent Melissa Powers. Pillich secured the position with 51% of the vote.

Pillich, a Democrat, defeated Republican incumbent Melissa Powers, who was appointed to the seat in January 2023 after former prosecutor Joe Deters was appointed to the Ohio Supreme Court.

Voters chose Democrat Connie Pillich to lead the Hamilton County Prosecutor's Office. Pillich won about 51% of the vote. Her election breaks a 92-year win streak for Republicans, who have held the prosecutor's office since 1932. It also marks the first time voters have elected a woman to the office.

Current Summit County Prosecutor Elliot Kolkovich is defending his spot against defense attorney and former assistant county prosecutor John Greven.

The race for Hamilton County prosecutor is heating up, and for the first time in twenty years, voters won't see Joe Deters on the ballot.
