The counting of votes began at 8 a.m. on Saturday amid tight security arrangements, along with the counting of votes in Assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand.

The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won seven of the nine assembly seats for which the bypolls were held on November 20. The NDA not only improved its tally over 2022, but also snatched seats like Kundarki and Katehari from the SP, besides increasing the winning margins on some and narrowing down the defeat gap on some others.

Yogi Adityanath's slogan "Batenge to Katenge", which originated in Uttar Pradesh, also resonated in the Maharashtra elections.

Meanwhile, the Samajwadi Party (SP) is facing a significant setback with early trends showing a leading performance by the BJP.

The Bharatiya Janata Party is leading in six of nine Uttar Pradesh Assembly seats for which bypolls were held this week, as Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reasserts control over the state that is at the core of the BJP's Hindi voter base.
