A newly-named storm, named Conall, is forecast to bring heavy rain to southern England and Wales, hitting communities still cleaning up from Storm Bert. The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for rainfall in several southern areas of the UK from 22:00 GMT on Tuesday until midday on Wednesday.

Parts of London have flooded as a yellow warning for rain is in place for parts of the capital and southern England as a new storm batters the UK. The weather system, named on Tuesday as Storm Conall by the Dutch Weather Service, hit just days after Storm Bert brought widespread disruption.

The environment secretary Steve Reed also warned more flooding is “likely” this week, although the impact “should be less severe” after at least two people died during the storm. Two yellow weather warnings for potentially heavy rain will be in place in parts of London,

Southend-on-Sea and Thurrock were forecast to feel the strongest impact of rainfall that could reach 30-40mm in some areas. Residents have been warned disruption to travel and infrastructure was likely during the inclement weather.

Another named storm is set to hit parts of the UK on Wednesday, bringing heavy rain and strong winds. Up to 50mm of rain is expected across southern England, including parts of south London, following the Met Office's issuance of a new yellow weather warning.
