Venezuelan man convicted in the killing of Georgia nursing student Laken Riley has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The 26-year-old Venezuelan migrant in the U.S. illegally has been convicted of malice murder and felony murder and sentenced to life without parole.

Jose Antonio Ibarra was convicted on three counts of felony murder and counts of malice murder, kidnapping with bodily injury, aggravated assault with intent to rape and “peeping Tom.”

Jose Ibarra learned his fate on Wednesday following a four-day-long bench trial in Athens in a case that captured national attention and rocked the community.

If you haven’t been following along with the case of Laken Riley, the brutal murder of the Georgia college student back in February touched off a firestorm over illegal immigration after it was revealed that the man arrested for her murder, Jose Ibarra, was a Venezuelan national who was in the United States illegally.

Jose Ibarra was found guilty of all 10 counts against him, including murder, kidnapping and aggravated assault. He faces life in prison, either with or without the possibility of parole.

Superior Court Judge Patrick Haggard found Jose Ibarra guilty Wednesday on all 10 counts including malice murder, felony murder, kidnapping with bodily injury, aggravated assault with attempt to rape and other charges in relation to the death of Laken Riley.
