Nebraska football has reach bowl eligibility. The Huskers beat the Wisconsin Badgers 44-25 Saturday at Memorial Stadium. NU improves to 6-5 on the year as UW falls to 5-6. This is the first bowl-eligible season for the Big Red since 2016.

Nebraska is bowl-eligible for the first time since 2016 after a 44-25 win over Wisconsin on Saturday. The win snapped a four-game skid for the Cornhuskers after a 5-1 start to the season.  Nebraska jumped out to a 21-10 halftime lead and didn't look to get the blueblood program back to the postseason.

Nebraska’s win against Wisconsin marks the first time the Cornhuskers have beaten the Badgers since September 2012. That season, Joel Stave served as UW’s quarterback, running back Montee Ball was in his final season in Madison and Bret Bielema manned the sidelines.

That turned into a short field, and, eventually, a touchdown run by Heinrich Haarberg.Wisconsin answered with a touchdown drive, but the Badgers struggled offensively the rest of the half, adding just one field goal.

The sight for the Badgers football team Saturday afternoon was that of Nebraska fans flooding Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Neb., listening to House of Pain's "Jump Around" and celebrating bowl eligibility for the first time in eight years. That came after the Badgers were crushed 44-25.

Big-picture, the defeat is Wisconsin’s first to Nebraska since 2012. The result also clinched Nebraska’s first bowl appearance since 2016, snapping a nine-game losing streak with a bowl appearance at stake. Finally, it handed the Cornhuskers the Freedom Trophy for the first time in its existence.

It was tough to pick a worst phase of the game because there were multiple candidates in Wisconsin's loss at Nebraska.
