The arrest of Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das in Bangladesh has ignited protests led by the Indian Secular Front (ISF) over allegations of minority persecution. As diplomatic tensions flare, ISKCON and Indian officials call for the protection of Hindu minorities amid ongoing unrest in the region.

Historically, Hindus made up approximately 22 per cent of Bangladesh's population during the 1971 Liberation War.

The arrest of a Hindu monk in Bangladesh has triggered a fresh war of words with neighbour India over the condition of minorities in the country. Chinmoy Krishna Das, a spokesperson of a Bangladesh-based Hindu organisation, was arrested on sedition charges this week, spurring clashes that led to one death.

The incident occurred on Thursday during a rally organised by the Bongio Hindu Jagaran Manch, a Hindu group protesting alleged attacks on Hindus and the arrest of Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das in Bangladesh.

Chinmoy Krishna Das, the leader of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (Iskcon) in Bangladesh, also popularly known as the Hare Krishna movement, was detained on sedition charge on Tuesday after the magistrate court of Kazi Shariful Islam denied him bail.

Bangladesh stepped up security in the port city of Chittagong on Wednesday as police arrested six people in connection with the murder of a lawyer, who was killed during clashes following the arrest of a leader of the country's Hindu minority.
