MAUI, Hawaii — National Player of the Year candidate Johni Broome and No. 3 Auburn captured the Maui Invitational championship with a 90-76 win over Memphis on Wednesday at Lahaina Civic Center.

The Auburn Tigers built a double-digit lead and never really let the North Carolina Tar Heels back in the game as they posted an 85-72 win in the Maui Invitational semifinals Thursday night.

It’s the first time in program history that Auburn has won out in Maui. It beat a pair of ranked teams to do so, surviving a scare from No. 5 Iowa State on Monday and handling No. 12 North Carolina late Tuesday night to get to Wednesday’s Memphis matchup.
