Japan Airlines (JAL) is now offering free domestic flights to international tourists visiting Japan. According to an announcement on their website, this offer is exclusively available to international travelers as part of a tourism campaign designed to encourage visitors to explore more of the country.

One way to combat overtourism is to help travelers explore more of the country beyond Tokyo. And Japan Airlines (JAL) is offering an enticing way to do so—free of charge.

A stopover fee of $100 USD or ¥300 will also be applied to travellers coming in from the US, Canada, Mexico and China if they stay in their first destination in Japan for more than 24 hours. No additional charges will be applied to passengers from other countries for the domestic segments.

Stopover fee for US, Canada, and Mexico: Visitors from the United States, Canada, and Mexico can enjoy a complimentary domestic flight if their first stopover destination in Japan is within 24 hours. Once the stay exceeds 24 hours, a stopover fee of USD$100 will be charged.

To promote seamless travel experiences across the country, Japan Airlines is offering free domestic flights to some of their international flyers. This will encourage travellers to explore magical landscapes which are away from the big city.
