The death of a nurse from North Lanarkshire has been linked to the use of a weight-loss drug recently approved for use on the NHS. Susan McGowan, 58, took two low-dose injections of tirzepatide, known under the brand name Mounjaro, over the course of about two weeks before her death on 4 September.

Tirzepatide, known under the brand name Mounjaro is prescribed for type 2 diabetes, but has been shown in clinical trials to be effective for weight loss. It has been recommended as a weight loss drug for adults, with proposals for the phased launch of it on the NHS being set out by NICE.

A weight drug recently legalised in the UK contributed to the death of a 58-year-old nurse, according to a new report.
