Louisiana lawmakers have advanced bills to flatten the state's income tax rate and repeal the corporate franchise tax in a special legislative session focused on passing Gov.

The Pew Charitable Trusts, a nonprofit public policy group, wrote lawmakers with a parallel concern: that they would be raiding state savings accounts to pay for the Landry plan, leaving Louisiana with less money in reserve compared to most other states.

If approved by the full House and Senate, the plan would eliminate the current tax brackets and move the state closer to eliminating the income tax.

About two dozen chimpanzees deemed too feeble to be moved a few years ago will be going to Chimp Haven after all. The NIH said originally they'd be kept in New Mexico for their own safety.
