A longtime donor who has given more than $160 million to Tulane University is the new namesake of the university’s expanding school of public health.

Tulane names its School of Public Health & Tropical Medicine after alumna Celia Scott Weatherhead, recognizing her for giving more than $160 million to the university.

Tulane officials said they hope the latest gift will raise the public health school's profile. The U.S. News and World Report ranked Tulane 12th among public health schools in the country this year, behind schools such as Johns Hopkins University, Harvard University and Emory University.

New Tulane athletic director Davis Harris, whose degree of interest in changing conferences is not clear, declined comment as per his policy on all realignment issues.

The Pac-12 conference went from two programs to six last week with the announcement that Boise State, San Diego State, Fresno State, and Colorado State are leaving the Mountain West to join Oregon State and Washington State starting in 2026.
