The ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon officially began, but the truce has left the region in suspense about its durability and fears of a broader conflict between Israel and Iran have peaked.

Israel launched an offensive in Lebanon in mid-September following months of tit-for-tat border attacks sparked by Hamas' Oct. 7 attack.

The ceasefire is a major step toward ending nearly 14 months of fighting sparked by the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.
