Major U.S. stock indexes are poised to open lower Tuesday, as September trading gets underway following a volatile month that ended on a high note.

By Harry Robertson and Wayne Cole LONDON/SYDNEY (Reuters) -Share markets fell slightly on Monday as investors braced for a data-packed week culminating in a U.S. jobs report that could decide whether a rate cut expected this month will be regular or super-sized.

European stocks are expected to open in positive territory Tuesday, bouncing back from a lackluster start to September trading at the beginning of the week.

European Stoxx 600 ( STOXX) moved 0.08% higher, bouncing back from a lackluster start to September. Investors await fresh catalysts, including the US jobs report, that could help to assess the size of the anticipated interest rate cut by the Fed later this month.

"We are seeing some natural caution at the beginning of a critical month for markets, with the Fed set to start its interest rate cutting cycle," said Ben Laidler, head of equity strategy at Bradesco BBI.
