The US rate-setting panel cut the benchmark federal fund rate by 50 basis points to 4.75–5.00%, in line with market expectations, which helped the benchmarks post fresh highs at open. Nifty rose 0.92% to a fresh high of 25,611.95, and Sensex rose 1.00% to a fresh high of 83,773.61.

Sensex and Nifty indices reached all-time highs following the US Federal Reserve's first policy rate cut in over four years. Although both indices peaked during the day, they closed with minor gains.

On Thursday, 1246 stocks advanced, 2374 declined and 95 remained unchanged, with an advance decline ratio 0.52 on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), indicating negative closing of stocks in broader markets.
