Stanford alums Michael Thorbjornsen and Maverick McNealy each posted an 8-under 64 on Thursday in the first round of the PGA Tour's season finale.

Eight of the top-12 players on the leaderboard played bogey-free golf as a pair of former Stanford stars, Maverick McNealy (62 at the par-70 Seaside Course) and Michael Thorbjornsen (64 at the par-72 Plantation) shared the lead at 8 under in the PGA Tour’s anchor event of FedEx Cup Fall and the 2024 season.

Maverick McNealy steadied himself after a rugged start Saturday with a 4-under 66 and caught up with Vince Whaley in a wild third round at the RSM Classic in which a half-dozen players had at least a share of the lead.

A windy day on St. Simons Island, Georgia, saw Maverick McNealy make his way to the top of the 2024 RSM Classic leaderboard. Navigating through the Seaside Course at Sea Island in a bogey-free fashion,

Vince Whaley and Maverick McNealy are tied for the lead at 14 under through 54 holes of The RSM Classic at Sea Island Golf Club’s Seaside Course in St. Simons Island, Georgia. Both players are looking for their first PGA Tour win.

Bramlett, needing at least a three-way tie for third to keep his PGA Tour card, sits T-12 through 54 holes in Sea Island, a few shots behind McNealy, his longtime friend.

In May, Michael Thorbjornsen finished No. 1 in the PGA Tour U standings, which meant an immediate promotion to the big leagues. Luke Clanton is on the fast track to duplicate that. He earned another point in that quest by making the RSM cut.

Vince Whaley matched the low round of the day with a 7-under-par 63 on Saturday to share the lead with Maverick McNealy at the RSM Classic in St. Simons Island, Ga.
