Spain and France meet in the semifinals of the European Championship on Tuesday. The match pits one of the highest-scoring teams at the tournament against one of the lowest as France’s star forward Kylian Mbappé has struggled to get to grips with his mask.

Didier Deschamps has explained his decision to take Kylian Mbappe off during extra-time of France’s quarter-final with Portugal. Deschamps’ side went on to win the game via a dramatic penalty shootout but only after the manager surprised many by substituting his captain with 15 minutes of extra-time still remaining.

Mbappé is wearing the mask after he broke his nose in a collision in France’s opening game—a 1-0 win against Austria on June 17. In the Austria game, Mbappé was invaluable, forcing the only goal with a cross that deflected in off Maximilian Wöber’s head.
