According to Greenville Police Department, just after 1 a.m. Saturday, officers heard gun shots at a parking garage on North Laurens Road. At the garage, officers found two victims with gunshot wounds. The victims were transported to the hospital for treatment. The shooting remains under investigation.

While Dawson ultimately succumbed to his wounds, Greenville Police Chief Chris Smith emotionally remarked at a Tuesday afternoon press conference that at the scene of the incident, Dawson – an accomplished member of the department’s SWAT team – took action while wounded and attempted to treat himself by making a tourniquet.
