After months of feverish anticipation, the wait is finally over after Emirates officially unveiled its brand new (and first ever) Airbus A350.

Emirates has taken delivery of its first Airbus A350-900 aircraft, marking an important step in its fleet growth strategy. The A350 is set to enhance Emirates’ medium and long haul operations beyond the airline’s existing network.

Emirates' A350 will commence commercial service on January 3 on the Dubai (DXB) – Edinburgh (EDI) route. The aircraft is the first of 65 A350-900XWBs ordered by the Dubai-based carrier and the first new type to join Emirates’ fleet since 2008.

The airline has placed current orders for a total of 65 A350-900s as part of its comprehensive strategy to bolster Dubai's Economic Agenda, which aims to integrate 400 additional cities into Dubai's foreign trade framework over the next ten years.

To perhaps nobody’s surprise, Emirates is standardising on the same “next generation” business class as its Boeing 777 refit – a seat which the airline now appears to be re-branding as the ‘S Lounge’, a design “inspired by the Mercedes S Class for an exceptional travel experience.”
