A high school hockey player from southern Illinois died this week after being shot on a St. Louis interstate while riding home from a hockey game, authorities said.

Colin Brown was in critical condition for days after the shooting, but died from his injuries Wednesday morning.

Colin Brown was struck by a stray bullet on Interstate 55 in St. Louis as he was on his way home from a game with his family Saturday night.

Colin Brown was traveling on Interstate 55 with his family following a hockey game Saturday night when he was struck by the stray bullet, according to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police. His father called 911 and continued driving until paramedics met them and rushed the teen to the hospital.

In a letter to sent to families, the principal and president of CBC High School said Colin, a member of the Class of 2026, was the victim of a shooting that occurred when he and his father, Calvin, were traveling home from the Affton Ice Rink following his participation in the CBC varsity hockey game.
