The holiday season officially kicked off early Friday evening, with 120,000 sparkling lights on the towering entryway tree.

Thrive City, the plaza outside Chase Center, will light what it calls the Bay Area's biggest tree -- 90 feet tall -- on Saturday along with activation of the district's first entertainment zone.

Providence City will hold its sixth annual Christmas tree lighting event on Thursday Dec. 5 at the roundabout on 100 North and Gateway Drive.

Crews are set to adorn the conifer with five miles of light strands, totaling more than 50,000 multicolored LED bulbs. A dazzling Swarovski star, featuring 3 million crystals, will crown the tree as its sparkling finale.
