TULUM, Mexico (AP) — Hurricane Beryl made landfall on Mexico’s coast near the resort of Tulum as a Category 2 storm early Friday, whipping trees and knocking out power as it came ashore after leaving a trail of destruction across the eastern Caribbean.

Hurricane Beryl, the earliest Category 5 hurricane on record in the Atlantic, has killed at least six people and caused severe damage after slamming the Caribbean. The downgraded storm headed toward Jamaica on Tuesday.

The record-setting hurricane has pummeled the Caribbean this week, causing widespread damage on a number of islands.
