Bob Menendez, the embattled senator from New Jersey, is making headlines once again—but this time for a potential plea to President Joe Biden for a pardon.

Sen. George Helmy, a Democrat and former chief of staff to New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, was sworn in on Monday and will serve in office for about two months until the November election. Democratic Rep. Andy Kim and Republican hotelier Curtis Bashaw are vying for the seat in November and the winner will immediately replace Helmy.

George Helmy was sworn into office on Monday as the 81st senator from New Jersey, following the resignation of now-former Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) over his conviction in a public fraud scheme involving bribery and acting as a foreign agent.
