Andy Murray turned down other top male and female stars before agreeing to coach Novak Djokovic, Andy Roddick has claimed. And the former US Open champion reckoned the working relationship between the “big tennis nerds” will work because it will not be an “overwhelming commitment” for the Scot.

Former two-time French Open finalist Alex Corretja admitted he was in "total shock" when the Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray collaboration news dropped but also backed the partnership to succeed.

"It’s time for one of my toughest opponents to step into my corner. Welcome on board, Coach — Andy Murray,” Djokovic said

Delgado was assistant coach under Ivan Lendl to Murray when he won his second Wimbledon title in 2016 before he went on to finish the year as world No.1. He reckoned the job is a “great challenge that Andy will relish” and with Djokovic perhaps entering his final season: “If Andy was going to do this, he had to do it now.”

Recently retired Andy Murray is going to team up with Novak Djokovic, working with him as a coach through the Australian Open in January.
