I am a student working on a YSL project, ‘The French and Francophone influences on YSL’s designs. I am looking for a direct quote from Yves St Laurent explaining that some of his collections were influenced by Chinese/Asian culture. Page 40-41, picture of Marie Helvin in a Chinese inspired outfit, Autumn/Winter 1977 and info'about collection, including the design for Opium fragrance. Page 52 about 'Evening ensemble of Chinese inspiration'. The quote 'I've finally cracked the secret of the Imperial City where I liberate you, my aesthetic ghosts, my queens, my divas, my whirlwind parties, my inky, crepe de Chine nights,my Coromandel lacquer, my artificial lakes, and my hanging gardens.' which is from a hand written note.
