After you walk across to Lindisfarne, you either have to stay over (book well ahead, including booking where you want to eat) or arrange transport to get you off the island. We …

After you walk across to Lindisfarne, you either have to stay over (book well ahead, including booking where you want to eat) or arrange transport to get you off the island. We prebooked a private taxi £40 to get to Berwick where we had left our car.. it was only 20 mins drive but there was no alternative really. I think you can get trains fairly easily from Berwick to Edinburgh. We picked Berwick as our start point, as it was possible to get a bus from there to Melrose. On our first day we travelled to Berwick (4 hours for us) , parked the car. Got bus to Melrose and walked a few miles to our accom to get a head start on the journey.
