A resistance of less the 100 ohms was measured between any two points in the control cavity. The resistance should continue to drop over the next 24 hours as the solvent evaporates.

WEBJun 23, 2014 · Water based, flat black and easy to brush on. Use pipe cleaners to paint the wire cavities. The StewMac stuff works with a minimum 3 coats. Be sure to check conductivity along the way with a multimeter and extend small tabs over the lip of the cavity to connect to the control plate or cavity cover.

WEBFeb 27, 2022 · Shielding helps a lot and IMHO should be the default for all electric guitars. All of my guitars are shielded, most of them I've shielded myself (with StewMac shielding carbon paint, and one guitar with copper tape). When shielding just the cavities (as in, not the pickups), there's no discernible loss of anything other than noise.

WEBApr 4, 2018 · Just for reference, when you use spray-on shielding paint like SuperShield Nickel or Copper, two coats will usually put on 4-8 mils (0.004"-0.008") thickness of paint, which is fully saturated with the metal flakes, all in electrical contact with each other. In copper shielding tape, the layer of copper is around 1.5 mils (0.0015") thick.

WEBFeb 26, 2000 · this stuff is a bit pricey ($30 + for a big spray can) but works really well; after you take the time to mask up your instrument around the cavities with tape and paper, it's literally 2 seconds to spray in the shielding, it covers like plain ol' spray paint. the result dries in a good 10 minutes, and is almost as conductive as copper foil, like 5 or 10 ohms from one side of a cavity to the other.

WEBMay 18, 2015 · First put some shellac flakes in a jar and add about double the thinner as flakes. It's not enough thinner to dissolve all the flakes, so it makes a totally saturated shellac mixture. Give it an hour or two and a couple stirs, then poured off about 2 tablespoons into another jar.

WEBJun 22, 2024 · Shielding makes a huge difference. For example, it can make a P bass completely silent. It will not eliminate single coil hum and some guitars with humbuckers or P90s that use shielded wires might not have a lot of additional noise but shielding absolutely makes a difference.
